ROYAL SELANGOR BRITISH MUSEUM - MERIAN VASE - MEDIUM
With elements from three of Merian’s cherished artworks, this medium-sized pewter vase presents a stunning crested lapwing alongside a branch of Citrus aurantium (bitter orange). Two Morpho Menelaus butterflies—one with wings open, revealing a brilliant iridescent blue in the original painting, and the other with wings closed, displaying earthy brown tones—decorate the piece. The vase itself remains in pewter, with a beautiful metallic sheen, bringing an artistic touch to any room.
About the collection: Royal Selangor’s collaborative offering with the British Museum draws on the public institution’s spectacular collection of some 8 million artefacts. Amongst the largest and most comprehensive in existence, the collection covers every continent, documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present. Founded in 1753, the British Museum was the first national public museum in the world. From the outset it was a museum of the world, for the world, and this idea still lies at the heart of the Museum’s mission today. The Museum’s collection tells the stories of cultures across the world, from the dawn of human history, over two million years ago, to the present.
