Prayer to the Divine Child:
"O Divine Child Jesus, I pray that Thou will give Thy servant the grace to love Thee more and more, with a love like Thy Blessed Mother had for Thee. Give me the grace to have the time often, if not daily, to attend the Holy sacrifice of the Mass and to witness with the eyes of the sinner, Mary Magdalen, to behold thee crucified, and to see Thy sorrowful Mother and St John at the foot of the Cross on the Hill of Calvary. And then O Loving Child, give me as food for my soul. Thy Body and Blood, as at the Last Supper that Thou gave to Thy Apostles. And after a good Confession and when death is near, as the Divine Child meet me at the last moment of my life and bid me to come with thee and show me Thy Palace Thy Heavenly Father has prepared for Thee. Amen"
Since the birth of Christ, there has been a devotion to the Infant Jesus. Christians have always longed to show their deep reverence to the Christ Child. All of Christ’s life is a model of wisdom and a source of salvation. The image of the Divine Child reminds us to have faith and innocence of children. The Divine Child became an icon in the Spanish speaking nations of South and Central America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where the Divine Child is credited with many miracles. One such miracle involved a Salesian priest named Father Juan Rizzo. Father Juan was helping to raise money to build a much-needed church in Barranquilla, Columbia. The project had run out of money before the church was finished, so father Juan prayed to the Divine Child for guidance. The Divine Child instructed Father Juan to carry His image along as he went in search of funds for the church. Father Juan was overwhelmed by the generosity that he encountered, and was able to collect funds to complete the church. More than 20 years later, Father Juan was charged with building a chapel in Bogota, Columbia. He used the same fund raising technique as he did in Barranquilla, and met with the same success.
