ROMAN INC - SAINT GERARD - PATRON OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS

Figurine comes nicely displayed in a box with a front window, with a prayer on the front and the story of the Saint on the back, and a prayer card inside.

"Prayer for Motherhood:
O good St Gerard, powerful intercessor before God and wonder-worker of our day, I call upon thee and seek thy aid. Thou who on earth didst always fulfill God’s design help me to do the Holy Will of God. Beseech the Master of Life, from Whom all paternity proceeds, to render me fruitful in offspring, that I may raise up children to God in this life and heirs to the Kingdom of His glory in the world to come. Amen."

In 1725, Gerard Majella was born as the son of a tailor in Muro, Italy. Gerard’s father died when he was 12 years old, which left the family in poverty. Gerard was apprenticed to a tailor who was very unkind. Gerard attempted to join the Capuchin Monastery, but his poor health prevented him from doing so. However, Gerard was accepted as a lay brother who served his Order as a tailor, infirmarian, gardener and porter. He served with great charity, obedience and humility. Throughout his life, miracles were tied to his intercession.
Once when Gerard was leaving the home of his friends, one of the daughters called after him because he had forgotten his handkerchief. He replied, "Keep it. It will be useful to you some day." Years later, the girl whom he had given it to was in danger of death during childbirth. Remembering Gerard's words, she called for the handkerchief. At once, the pain abated, the danger passed, an she delivered a healthy baby. This incident led to Gerard becoming associated with pregnancies and childbirth. He has also become the patron saint of the pro-life movement and unborn children. Gerard died of tuberculosis in 1755. He left a note on the door of his room that read, “Here the will of God is done, as God wills, and as long as God wills.” Gerard was canonized in 1904.
