ROMAN INC - BLESSED MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA

Figurine comes nicely displayed in a box with a front window, with a prayer on the front and the story of the Saint on the back, and a prayer card inside.

"Prayer in honor of Saint Teresa of Calcutta:
God, our loving Father, You have given us a beautiful example of love in action through Your daughter, Saint Teresa. In her life, she showed us how to follow Jesus by loving and serving others. She joyfully fed the hungry, rallied for the poor and unwanted, cared for the sick and dying, and sheltered the homeless. May we imitate her love and generosity by reaching out to Your needy ones. Thank You for the gift of Saint Teresa. May she now rest in Your arms eternally. Amen."

The woman who would be known as St. Teresa of Calcutta was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. From a young age, Agnes felt called to religious life, and at the age of 18, she joined the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland. She received the name of Sister Mary Teresa. After making her first Profession of Vows in 1931, Sr. Teresa was assigned to St. Mary's School for Girls in Calcutta, India. She spent 20 happy years there.
In 1946 on a train ride from Calcutta to Darjeeling for her annual retreat, Sr. Teresa received her "call within a call." Jesus asked her to help the poorest of the poor. After two years of discernment and testing, Mother Teresa received her permission to begin. Dressed in a plain white sari with blue trim, she entered the slums of Calcutta. She visited families, washed the sores of children, cared for the dying and lepers. After a few months, she was joined by some of her former students. In 1950, the new congregation of the Missionaries of Charity was officially established, and their work quickly spread to other cities and countries. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and the eyes of the world turned toward her work and her example.
An even more heroic, hidden side of Mother Teresa was revealed only after her death. Hidden from everyone was an interior pain, a feeling of being separated by God, which mystics have called the "Dark Night of the Soul." Mother Teresa went through this Dark Night for 50 years, but she never let it hamper her work for her Lord. By 1997, Mother Teresa's 4,500 sisters served the poorest of the poor in 123 countries around the world. Her health failing, Mother Teresa passed on to eternal life on September 5, 1997. She was canonized in 2016.
St. Teresa once said, "As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus."
